Twenty-First Century Mining to Fuel the Electrification of America
The secret is out, modern technologies like batteries, smart phones, and semiconductors require minerals from far-flung, geopolitically tumultuous regions. As both a means of national security and advancing domestic American industry, we must reform American mining. Current permitting is both too long and ineffective. Tribal communities are often poisoned by run-off while mines have multi-decade return horizons. Critical minerals are less scarce than you would think, the trick is securing domestic or friendly, cost-effective supply chains with advancing technologies and clean refining, recycling, and reuse.
We are advocates for onshoring mineral refining, advancing minimally extractive mining technologies, mandating pollution safeguards, supporting domestic battery recycling and reuse economies, and collaborative public-private-tribal mining ventures.
